AKYLADE's Testing Accommodations Policy
Effective Date: January 1, 2024
Eligibility for Accommodations:
AKYLADE is committed to providing equal access to its certification exams for all individuals, including those with disabilities, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other applicable federal and state laws.
Request Procedure:
Individuals seeking testing accommodations must submit a request in writing at least seven (7) days prior to the scheduled exam date. Requests must be sent to accommodation@akylade.com and should include the requested accommodation(s).
Note: The test taker seeking an accommodation shall not email us a copy of any medical records or documentation. Any medical records or documentation sent to AKYLADE will be immediately deleted and purged from our systems without being reviewed.
Interactive Process:
Upon receipt of an accommodation request, AKYLADE will engage in an interactive process with the test taker to determine appropriate accommodation(s) based on the individuals documented needs and the requirements of the certification exam.
It is during this process that the test taker requesting accommodation will show (but not email or submit) documentation in support of their request, including but not limited to documentation from a qualified healthcare or educational professional demonstrating the candidate's need for accommodation(s). Proof that another certification or exam provider has previously granted accommodation(s) to the test taker may also be favorably considered.
Schedule the Exam:
If your accommodation request is approved, the candidate will receive detailed instructions for scheduling their exam through the exam accommodations scheduling team. Note: You cannot schedule an exam with an accommodation through the online scheduling system.
Types of Accommodation(s):
Extended Testing Time: Test takers with disabilities that impact their processing speed or ability to concentrate may be eligible for extended testing time. Test takers who are conducting their exam in a language other than their native language may request an extension of the testing time. For example, if a candidate from Mexico is a native Spanish speaker but will be taking an exam in English, they may be granted a 25% extension of their testing time.
Assistive Technology: Test takers may request the use of assistive technology or auxiliary aids during the exam, such as screen readers, magnification software, or adaptive keyboards, as appropriate.
Quiet Testing Environment: Individuals with sensory processing disorders or other conditions that require a quiet testing environment may request to take the exam in a separate, distraction-free room.
Confidentiality and HIPAA Compliance:
Confidentiality: AKYLADE will maintain the confidentiality of all disability-related information provided by test takers in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Limited Disclosure: Disability-related information will only be shared with individuals involved in the accommodation process on a need-to-know basis. Test scores will not be adjusted or influenced by the provision of accommodations.
Non-Discrimination Policy:
AKYLADE prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability, race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, or any other protected characteristic in the provision of testing accommodations. All requests for accommodation(s) will be considered based on individual needs and the requirements of the certification exam.
Accommodation Decision:
Accommodation decisions will be made solely at the discretion of AKYLADE. An accommodation request will be decided as accepted, pending, or rejected by AKYLADE within 96 hours of receiving the request. Accepted requests will detail the accommodation being provided and instructions on how to schedule the candidate's exam. Requests that do not include all the necessary information to make an accepted or rejected decision concerning the accommodation request shall be decided as pending. When a request is decided as pending, the candidate will be contacted and requested to provide additional information in order to finalize the accommodation decision. Rejected requests will detail the reason for rejecting the accommodation request and information on how to appeal the decision.
Appeals Process:
Test takers who believe they have been unfairly denied accommodation(s), or who wish to appeal an accommodation decision, may submit a written appeal to appeal@akylade.com. Appeals will be reviewed promptly and in accordance with AKYLADE's appeals procedures.
